We have all heard of international observances or days dedicated in support of a cause or to mark an issue of concern or interest and promote awareness, such as Earth Day, World Cancer Day, International Women’s Day, Valentines Day, Friendship Day, World Poetry Day, World Health Day, World Dance Day, World Smile Day and so on.
Friendship Day, for example, which began in the US, is celebrated with great zeal and hype around the occasion, to create awareness about the Day and promote friendship and brotherhood. Although the reasons for establishing this Day are not clear, the retrospection of the world scenario in those days can lead us to an understanding.
With the devastating effects of First World War, such as increased hostilities and hatred between countries, there was a greater need for friendship among individuals and nations. Hence, in 1935 the US Congress dedicated a Day in the honor of friends and friendship, and it became an annual event, which was adopted by several other countries. Friendship Day is celebrated around the world, including Pakistan, with friends exchanging cards, flowers and gifts.
In Pakistan, many such traditions and international observances are adopted and celebrated, such as International Women’s Day, Valentines Day and so on. The Sab Keh Do day, was launched as a unique initiative in Pakistan in April 2009, to celebrate the importance of self-expression and welcome people to say what is on their minds; to express their feelings, views and thoughts freely. By promoting open communication, the Day is a much needed initiative to bridge gaps.
Sab Keh Do is a step in the right direction to encourage communication and increased dialogue between individuals, to promote a positive change in society. Research has shown that poor communication fosters misunderstandings, impaired trust, disagreements, ill feelings and conflict among people. The objective of Sab Keh Do is to create a culture of honesty and respect, and promotes love and peace, by encouraging people to express their feelings openly, clear misunderstandings and build positive communication.
In an increasingly globalized world, with the facilities of modern communication technologies available to us, staying in touch with family and friends in different cities or countries is as simple as making a phone call or sending an SMS.
This year, the Sab Keh Do theme song sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, with its inspiring lyrics and melodious beat, puts a smile on your face every time you listen to it. It truly reflects the spirit of Sab Keh Do and spreads the message of positive communication, friendship, love, honesty and peace.
When The Sab Keh Do was celebrated in 2009 and 2010, various activities were held, including painting and essay writing competitions in more than 100 schools across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. These paintings and essays were also included in the Sab Keh Do carnivals held during the month. The Sab Keh Do team interacted with students and encouraged them to express themselves through paintings and essays. This activity promoted talent and creativity in children and but also gave them an avenue for self-expression. There is a need for more such innovative and progressive activities in schools in Pakistan, to foster creativity and healthy competition among children.
Although the Sab Keh Do Day is marked in our calendars as a Day to be celebrated on any weekend of the month of April, it is more than just a Day; it is an inspiring vision which continues to touch the hearts of many, and it is truly the first step towards betterment of society. Sab Keh Do promotes a culture of open communication, honesty and respect and will surely albeit gradually bring about a positive change in the mindset of people, especially the younger generation, who are responsible for the future of our country.

Social Media especially Facebook and Twitter are very much popular all around the globe. Every one is using them whether he/she is a student, businessman, housewives, religious scholars etc.
Name anyone from any class of life and you will find him a user of any of the above mentioned media.
The popularity is increasing by every passing day. We have already seen that businesses are advertising and winning customers through Facebook whereas recruiters are recruiting potential candidates through Facebook too. Some are making friends while others are searching for their life partners. All this and many more activities like games, information gathering are being carried out through these social networks.
All of the above mentioned activities may not look odd to anyone but what is interesting about the Facebook is that it may be the first time that social media is being used to develop relationships with other country.
As we all know that Pakistan has no diplomatic relations with Israel and infect Pakistan hasn’t recognized Israel till yet but in an attempt to foster relationships with Pakistani people, especially with youth, Israel has decided to use much popular social media Facebook.
They have created a page on Facebook by the name of Israel in Pakistan.
At first, by the title of Page, it looks as if Israeli embassy is working in Pakistan but when you go into “info” tab, only then situation gets little clearer.
The information mentioned on the page is as below:
Since Israel and Pakistan do not enjoy formal diplomatic relations, this online embassy serves to foster friendship between nationals of Israel and Pakistan on Facebook. Hopefully we can soon build real embassies in Pakistan and Israel, Shalom!
Mission
“The Embassy of Israel in Pakistan has created this Facebook page as a resource of information on Israel and provides updates on the Mission’s activities to the general public.”
For the time being they have also allowed user postings on the page and till date 2350 people have joined the page. The page is being advertised rigorously through Facebook adverts. Till now most of the postings on the page contain hatred and racism against Jews & Israel.
Let’s see how much they will be successful in their attempt to develop relations with Pakistan. But one thing that people should do that despite the hatred with Israel they should comment or post in a civilized manner as they are representing Pakistan.
Right now people are posting in an offensive, uncivilized manner which is bringing disrepute for them and country as well.
Moreover this matter should be taken at Pakistan Government level and government should devise a strategy in this regard too.

We usually don’t cover global tech stories, but this is huge, so we thought our readers might get interested in reading this.
Well, the headline might look crazy to you, but the fact is that Paul Ceglia, initial partner of Mark Zuckerberg (the founder and CEO of facebook), is claiming to have 50 percent financial rights over Facebook, based on his initial investment of USD 1,000 – that he made back in 2003.
This way, Paul Ceglia is potentially the luckiest investor in the history of tech world. He, may get as many shares in Facebook as Zuckerbeg has – based on his 1,000 dollars investment that he made in facebook in early days.
Paul says that he has the copy of contract with at least one dozen emails, which facebook says are fake, to prove that his initial investment is legit and he is rightful owner of facebook shares (exactly equal to Zuckerberg’s) valuing around 10 billion dollars.
It all started back in 2003 when Zuckerberg shared his idea of year book (later called as facebook) with Paul and asked him for fund injection, which Paul agreed and paid 1,000 dollars to Zuckerberg against 50 percent stakes in the project.
After several months of this initial investment by Paul, Zuckerberg was able to launch facebook in early 2004, which turned out to be a successful project (though the access to website was limited to Harvard University students only).
Later on, in summer 2004, Zuckerberg seemingly lied to Paul and said that project didn’t go through well and he’s thinking of taking the website off-air. He offered Paul the the refund of his investment, which Paul claims Zuckerberg never made.
Currently the case is in court, and may turn out to be one of the biggest tech stories of history.
And just don’t consider it another ordinary lawsuit, as the tech analysts are taking this incident very seriously, plus a fact that the law firm behind Paul Ceglia, DLA Piper, is a major international law firm that primarily represents technology companies. It is said that DLA Piper takes only those cases which it believes have some value and credibility in them.
Just to add here, in past, facebook had to pay 65 million dollars to Winklevoss brothers (who were without any document proof) in a settlement case when both the brothers had accused Zuckerberg of stealing their idea of launching facebook.
You can read complete emails (between Zuckerberg and Paul) and more details on Business Insider and a webcast discussion on TechCrunch.

Earlier this week, Facebook pulled a controversial page calling for a Third Palestinian Intifada after facing intense pressure and criticism from Israeli politicians and organizations like the Anti-Defamation League. When it eventually decided to remove the page, the social network explained the decision by pointing out that comments on the page had “deteriorated to direct calls for violence,” thereby warranting its termination per company policy. One lawyer, however, thinks Facebook should’ve yanked the page much earlier — and he’s asking for more than $1 billion to help heal the wounds.
Political activist Larry Klayman is the man behind the billion-dollar, class-action lawsuit, filed yesterday in Washington. Klayman, who is Jewish, alleges that Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (also Jewish) intentionally kept the Intifada page active in order to “further their revenues and the net worth” of the company. Doing so, he claims, put Klayman’s own life in jeopardy, since he has been “called a Zionist publicly by radical Palestinians and other such Arabic interests.” Naturally, this led Klayman to consider himself “a target of this call to kill Jews.”
So how does Klayman plan on making his case? Consider, if you will, Exhibit A: Aaron Sorkin’s imagination. In his complaint, Klayman cites ‘The Social Network’ as irrefutable evidence that Zuckerberg “has no conscience or sense of right or wrong.” Because movies are real.
And in case you’re wondering whether this is just another April Fool’s prank, keep in mind that Klayman has in the past filed lawsuits against Osama Bin Laden, Hillary Clinton, the Federal Reserve, the Department of the Treasury and, for good measure, his own mommy dearest. Accusing Mark Zuckerberg of profiting from an Intifada is very much within his strike zone.

Most of us already know the seriousness of a situation when our private pictures or videos land in fraudulent hands. Still, we make mistakes – and are often embarked with this condition when suicide becomes the last option to save ourselves.
Night packages (the root cause of above mentioned problem) have bought our nation on the verge of social destruction. Every other mobile phone subscriber has a list of friends (of opposite gender) with whom they spend nights, every night in fact. Soon it becomes a habit and then a mental dis-order, depression, irritation, increases annoyance and what not.
Let’s forget the mental and physical health for time being and talk about even greater problem.
Lately, thanks to significant increase of Camera Phones, and almost zero MMS charges (with SMS/MMS Packages), the number of such incidents have increased where pictures and videos (at times with objectionable orientation) are shared with partners over internet and MMS.
Based on few incidents I recently came across, here are few recommendations:
Now Remember Following (as an advice / request from elder brother):
Never Trust Phone Friends: This is for those who make friends over phone and talk to them indefinitely. Never trust them. There are organized groups targeting both girls and boys to attain intimate information/pictures/videos to later blackmail them.
Deleted Pictures/Videos are Recoverable: If you think you have deleted a photo/video and you safe, then unfortunately its not the case. A deleted video/photo or any data is recoverable. So never shot videos / pictures at first place which you may not want to keep without self for ever. Read this unfortunate example for more details on this.
Fear Voice Recorders too: So if you are good with not giving photos, videos, you are still prone to voice recorders. Please make sure that you are using your mobile phone without any risk and with utmost care.
What to Do if pictures/videos are exposed? God forbid, if your pictures/videos are somehow in someone’s hands who is blackmailing you (for money or at times with some other demands) then do following:
Disclaimer: I highly recommend you to talk to your parents, however, approaching Police and FIA should be considered based on your circumstances. (Considering our police’s performance) I fear, that approaching police (if you don’t have high-level contacts) may ruin your life.
We need to be extra careful, especially, when there is no cyber law in our country.
At the end, I would say: Bad deeds meet bad consequences, so be sincere to your self, your parents and to your life.

After the successful social media led political revolution in Tunisia called “Jasmine Revolution” and later in Egypt which led to the overthrow of decade long dictator ships in these countries, many people have predicted that Pakistan can also become the center of such revolution.
People in support of such revolution argue that Pakistan too has enough population using social media (internet and mobile phones), that they certainly can trigger a change in the ruling elite class replacing it with a government truly democratic in its policies.
Yes, indeed Pakistan has a good chunk of its population using social media but what are their activities on internet should also need to be examined. It will not be wrong to say that most of our internet traffic is non-serious i.e. they only use net as means of chat, watching videos, music etc., and seldom or never participate in any positive activity.
So is the case of Mobile phone users. A vast majority of them is interested in only funny SMS and games.
There may be various reasons of this non-serious attitude. Primarily it is lack of education and lack of self understanding as a nation i.e. where we stand today and where we should be. Unless we don’t have well educated people in our lower middle class there is hardly any possibility of change for the better, at any platform.
This is just one side of the story. Those who believe that such social media revolution can’t be brought in Pakistan stress that Pakistan already has a democratic elected government and people are enjoying free media and every one can express his/her view point openly.
So why would people go for such revolution when their needs are met and there is no oppression on them.
Both sides arguments are valid as either side have solid arguments of proof but middle grounds remain and the debate of any such social media led political revolution are not gone forever in Pakistan. In fact they are becoming even stronger every day as our youth is reaching the point of maturity and self understanding.
Pakistan may have a democratic government but massive corruption and lawlessness make situation ripe for a revolt against the prevailing system of blessing some at the cost of many.
Regarding the wider debate of chances of any social media led political revolution in Pakistan, it will be unfair to expect it any time sooner.
Though we have seen online activism (during Chief Justice campaign) in the past, however, organizing the human power still remains a dilemma for online community of the country.
Unless and until people of Pakistan don’t unite on some basic principles and common grounds shedding their minor differences there is little chance of any such revolution in the country.

February is kind of a lucky month, not only because I was allocated on planet earth in this month but also because it was the real kick off for revolutionary location based services in real world.
Location based services are dependent services or solutions which are brought to a requester by either automatically detecting their current real-time location or by manually setting it up on user’s device.
February, 2009 was the time when location based services took all the social experience to another level. Surprisingly, everyone might think of “Google Latitude” as first time idea generator but in fact “Google Latitude” was a replacement to “DodgeBall” which was developed by Dennis Crowley, founder of “Foursquare”.
This software was built as part of his graduate thesis project and then purchased by Google in 2005 replaced by “Latitude” in February 2009 as a commercial product.
“Google Latitude” was basically a map based platform where user could either locate themselves manually or by using the functionality of GPS or nearest cellular tower information through their mobile phone.
The located people are pinned on digital map and then this information can be shared with friends and associates in contact.
Just in one month, “Google Latitude” faced the very first competitor. None other but Denis Crowley along with Naveen Selvadurai completely revolutionized the idea of self-locating on a digital map with their product known as “Foursquare”.
The idea was basically similar but with an extra of Check-In service which could let user locate them at some local point of interest. Despite all privacy concerns, these both products went through huge number of user interests both on internet & mobile market.
This idea went in further adaptation by other big social media based websites such as Twitter and Facebook by end the year 2009. “Google Latitude” then became the last one to introduce the Check-In feature in early 2011.
Facebook Places

The very first thing which makes it a huge success is the estimated number of over 500 million Facebook users even though the service is not available for every one of them yet. Facebook which took enough time to introduce the service and then rolling it out based on various factors from location to location, is already facing serious privacy allegations and concerns.
For last two days, I had been watching friends checking in to various locations in Pakistan and thus they confirmed that it is now available for use. However, some local users are still facing the same message of “service not available in your area”. So there might be a glitch in service or it may be in testing phase.
Facebook Places are available for smarts phones like iPhone, Android phones, Blackberry v1.9+ and any other phone with HTML5 enabled. This pushes the Windows phone out of the list as of current since they are still in process of rolling out the support for HTML5.
Places for Pakistan
One of the main reasons that may have delayed the location ‘based services’ roll out was the unavailability of business listing data for Pakistan like other awaiting countries. The data of local business listings for Facebook Places comes from various partners where Facebook’s largest partner is “Factual”.
Facebook uses Microsoft Bing maps as their base layer for digital maps and as one of the business listing data partner.
Somehow, this partnership for Pakistani users is a bit of worthless with no updated maps and very limited business listings at Bing platform.

Tell us more… Would you?
However, Facebook still did not want to stay behind in race of crowd sourcing the information for free of charge from its users despite in such mattes, first question to ask that if Facebook is responsible enough? The answer is mostly not satisfactory.

“Tell us more..” is the option, given to the users provided with ability to add listings or edit the existing ones and seems to be taking advantage of enriching their own database and their data partners as well who are also getting data for location based business listings from users without paying a single penny (The Google Way).
Benefits for businesses
Well, nevertheless a major benefit for local businesses is that they can use the Facebook Places to advertise their products in a better way and attract more customers. Facebook already offers a Deals feature where businesses can offer deals to the customers when some of the user is nearby that business location or checked-in at particular location.
Individual privacy, Yes still at stake!
3 things you need to watch out from the privacy settings before you use Facebook Places.
At an individual level, privacy remains a concern since you may not want to check-in yourself but you may get annoyed when one of the friends can check you in as easy as to tag you in status message. Therefore, don’t forget to set the appropriate option for “who can check you in to Places” from Facebook privacy settings.

You may not want to get coincidences or unscheduled meetings with any friend by letting them know that you are nearby at the moment. This will need you to set the appropriate options for “People here now” and “Places I check in to” from Facebook privacy settings.

“Going viral” is a term I usually associate with the latest internet memes (LOLcats for instance) and funny videos. But as of late, I’ve seen this trend, of seemingly instant gain in popularity, here in Pakistan too.
Whether it’s “Faraz” poetry in text messages, or “Zubaida Aapa ke totkay”, there’s always someone being made a punch line of jokes and text forwards these days.
With the World Cup hype at an all time high, Kamran Akmal’s dropped catches of Ross Taylor (whose innings of and unbeaten 131 cost Pakistan the match) have made him a comic character, jokes on him providing chuckles to millions.
The Internet and mobile phones throughout the country are absolutely buzzing with jokes about his keeping. People vented their frustration at Pakistan’s’ defeat by going after Kamran Akmal all guns blazing on Facebook and Twitter.
So much was the volume of tweets about him that “Kamran Akmal” was actually in the worldwide trendy topics on Twitter after the match.
Taking advantage of this notoriety, webmasters started working on keywords like “Kamran Akmal jokes”.
Someone even made a fake twitter account, and it’s the first result when you Google “Kamran Akmal twitter”: http://twitter.com/KeeperAkmal

And while we’re on the subject of Akmal humor here’s what the masses had to say about him:
Pakistan ki worldcup jeet ka inhesaar kamran akmal pe hai….. agar wo injured ho jai to.
– – Owais Hasan on Twitter
Behind every successful man there is a woman likewise… behind every successful batsman there is Kamran Akmal
-Parichay Mehta on Twitter
Why did Kamran Akmal WALK back to hotel???? Because he failed to CATCH the bus :p - Ozzy Ali on Twitter
Some of the readers among you who aren’t that cricket savvy might be wondering why so much fuss on a couple of dropped catches. A Pakistani cricket enthusiast collected all the stats and here’s the rundown. He’s dropped 62 catches since 2006. A complete list available here:
He has also been in talks with the International Cricket Council on his poor keeping, deemed by many to be suspicious.
The most famous loss that Pakistan suffered because of Kamran Akmal’s iron gloves came against Australia in the second test at Sydney cricket ground where he dropped three Mike Hussey catches who then went on to make an unbeaten 134. Irony came knocking when Mike Hussey was named as man of the match for his unbeaten 134 which gave the Aussies a narrow 36 runs win.
Why Becoming an Hero is so Quick?
All jokes aside, this instant notoriety is relatively new and is something not seen even 5 years back. I guess the thing is that we are more connected than ever before. All it takes is one message and it will spread like wildfire since a good forward joke is always welcome amongst us.
Another thing is that internet has become an integral part of our lifestyles now. DSL subscriptions are rising all the time and mobile internet use is through the roofs too. If anything interesting happens, the first thought across a majority of the people would be “I should update my status!” or “I should tweet about this”.
What to Avoid?
With the changing trends, people don’t wait for TV or newspapers to uncover a story or a development. This is a double edged sword though, in my opinion. On one hand, this connectivity can instantly rouse people to protest against the latest price hike. Or, it can be used to drag the image of a poor soul, think Zubaida Aapa, through the mud.
When it’s used for the latter, the problems begin. In the specific case of our first choice wicket keeper, people played the judge and jury and sentenced him to slander and ridicule. Whether or not it should have been done is an entirely separate matter.
As I’m writing this, I can see some of you squirming in your chairs, itching to lambast me for writing in his defense and to say that he deserved it. I address that by firstly saying that I am in no way defending him, I’m just saying that there is always a more civilized way to go about things.
I was particularly angered at a forward I received containing Kamran Akmals’ home address. That is simply unacceptable. Who knows how things might have panned out if some hot-heads actually went there?
I guess the thing is we’re an emotional nation. And sometimes, containing those emotions can be a bit of work. But sometimes a cooler head is required. Jokes and fun are good things, but hurting other people to get a laugh is in no way acceptable.

Those jokers over at M.I.C. Gadget have done it again. You might remember them releasing an action figure of Apple’s CEO last year. This time they’ve chosen to release a figure for FaceBook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. “It is heavier than an iPhone, lighter than an iPad. And it stands 7 inches tall.” He comes accessorized with a Like It button, Adidas sandals, and smarmy grin.

This Zuckerburg bobble-headed-looking doll comes with a number of amusing odds and ends. The Like it button can be replaced with a Poke button if you’re feeling a little punchy, or pokey as the case may be. The kit also comes included with customizable speech bubbles that stick into the back of his big head. Make him say something Johnny!
