Samsung has announced to sponsor sports activities at the Punjab Stadium-Lahore, from the 7th to 9th of April, 2011. This extravaganza of sports and athletics is titled as the “71st Samsung Punjab Olympics”.
Out of the 26 competitive events planned during the 71st Samsung Punjab Olympics, 19 events will feature sportsmen and 8 events will feature female competitors. Hundreds of well trained athletes hailing from eight different zones of the Punjab province will be participating in these games to win popularity and valuable prizes.
The Managing Director of Samsung Pakistan, Mr. Yee commented on the benefits and enthusiasm of the Punjab Olympics by saying;
“The youth of Pakistan have proved their competitive talents and excellence in numerous sports and athletics. By sponsoring the Punjab Olympics, Samsung aims to bring out the raw talent and enrich the performance of these youngsters for a higher level of sports and international athletics.
It is delightful to see their passionate participation in this event. Such events play a critical role in channeling the energies of the youth towards positive and healthy activities.
Over the years, Samsung has also been sponsoring the global Olympic Games regularly and extending passionate support to numerous other sporting activities. As a continuation of this tradition, this year, Samsung’s sponsorship for the Punjab Olympics is worth over 7 million Rupees.
The Punjab Olympics have been held regularly for over seven decades now. Therefore, it has steadily evolved into a healthy social event and a provincial festival, where hundreds of sports enthusiasts converge annually to demonstrate their competitive talents and share their skills and successes. Thus, it also brings an opportunity for the Pakistani sportsmen and women to gather onto one interactive platform and learn from each other.
An Italian demonstrator gave us hope, but now we’re empty inside — the exceptionally thin 11.6-inch version of Samsung’s 9 Series laptop will indeed come with a puny 64GB solid state drive. Well, perhaps empty is a bit of an exaggeration, as the machine’s gorgeous duralumin curves fill our hearts with joy, as does the comparatively inexpensive $1,199 price tag that Sammy just confirmed on its website. And hey, we know of an Engadget editor making do with just 60GB of storage in his notebook, so it’s not an untenable thing — but when Samsung’s marketing materials proudly boast that “You’ll have room to bring it all with you with the 64GB drive,” it’s hard to repress the tears. That said, if “portable” is your middle name, you’ll find all the pre-orders you need at our source link.
Back when we first laid eyes on Samsung’s Central Station, we were excited by its wireless docking capabilities, and now it looks like the company’s ready to let the monitor loose on European soil, albeit with a decidedly less American moniker. The SyncMaster C27A750, a 27-inch affair, uses Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology via a USB dongle to connect to your laptop. It touts a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and sports HDMI, VGA, and USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. The new SyncMaster will hit Europe by the end of April for about €600, but we’ve yet to hear anything about Central Station’s ETA — very sneaky, Samsung… very sneaky.

We can’t help but feel like this is one sinking ship coming to the aid of another, but for what it’s worth, Samsung has apparently started emailing Symbian developers in India with a very simple message: “if you’re unhappy about what’s going on, give Bada a shot.” Sammy, of course, is referring to Nokia’s decision to slowly phase out Symbian over the course of roughly 150 million additional shipped handsets — not a small quantity, granted, but the platform’s still got a definitive expiration timeline attached to it now that’s undoubtedly going to sour devs who want a mobile platform that they know will be around for the long haul. Though Bada doesn’t have the global traction that Symbian enjoys, it’s definitely geared to target some of the same low-end market segments Symbian was starting to gun for over the past couple years… so we suppose we see some synergy. Still, if it were our engineering dollars, we’d be hard-pressed not to target a platform with a little more multi-manufacturer support and worldwide reach — Android, for instance. Can’t blame Samsung for trying!
Samsung has just taken the veils off yet another Android handset in its rapidly expanding portfolio, this one targeting those BlackBerry-addicted portrait QWERTY keyboard lovers. The Galaxy Pro squeezes a four-row button array beneath a set of Android keys and a 2.8-inch touchscreen, while its insides are filled with an 800MHz processor of an unspecified variety and a 3 megapixel cam with autofocus skills. UK carrier Three has already confirmed it’ll be offering this Froyo handset — via an unlisted YouTube video we’ve embedded for you after the break — and others should soon be coming out with their own announcements and, eventually, pricing.
Whether you love or loathe Apple, you have to be happy with the company’s aggressive upgrade of the iPad. It has led to Samsung, purveyor of an Android 3.0 tablet by the name of Galaxy Tab 10.1, to look more closely at its own hardware and pricing model and, according to executive VP Lee Don-Joo, “improve the parts that are inadequate.” We don’t know what those are, specifically, however he notes that “Apple made [the iPad 2] very thin” and also goes on to say that Samsung will be rethinking its pricing strategy with the Tab 10.1. It was originally going to cost more than the 7-inch Galaxy Tab, but in light of Apple’s new product, Samsung might have to cut into its profit margins… or maybe even forgo profits altogether to make its new Tab a success.
One false alarm is bad enough, but two would be positively evil, wouldn’t it? We’re cautiously optimistic that Samsung and AT&T are serious this time about posting the Captivate’s update to Android 2.2 starting tomorrow, another step in Sammy’s long, drawn-out road to getting all of its promised Galaxy S upgrades out the door. We’re sure owners are going to appreciate some of the simple pleasures in life that Froyo (and Gingerbread) owners have come to take for granted like being able to move apps to external storage… and it’s all just hours away. Can you feel the excitement?
Update: in an official Facebook video just posted, AT&T mentions that it’s already in the process of testing a Froyo upgrade for the HTC Aria as well — and it should be coming “very soon.”
